Massage after stoma surgery

I've got a long time client who recently underwent abdominal surgery and now has a stoma, she reached out asking if she can still continue her massage sessions once she's cleared medically, I've worked with for years, and massage has been a big part of her wellness routine. Understandably, she's feeling a bit unsure about how things will change with her body now and I want to support her in the safest and most respectful way possible
I'm planning to get a full picture of her medical clearance, by the way but for now I'd appreciate advices, suggestions etc

Good call, before diving in, get the okay from her doctor. Ask her to stay away from heavy lifting around her stoma, and listen to her body. Ask her to take it easy, and make sure she talks about how she's feeling

Once she has full medical clearance, massage can often continue, but you'll want to avoid direct pressure on or around the stoma and be mindful of any scar tissue or sensitive areas. Focus on gentle techniques for surrounding muscles, maintain open communication about comfort and adjust positioning for her safety. Gathering her clearance details and any specific surgeon recommendations will help you tailor sessions safely while supporting her wellness routine
